Help Stop Disinformation on Social Media!
The number of countries with political disinformation campaigns on social media doubled in the past 2 years. Misinformation about voting, elections, and our democracy have alarming real-life effects. Never before has technology had such control over the way billions of us think, act, and live our lives—social media is reprogramming civilization.
Please do NOT engage with the disinformation, replying, sharing or retweeting it. Social media platforms reward engagement in their algorithms. This means any time a user (particularly one with a large following) comments or shares a post – even to try to debunk that post – they are helping to circulate that content to more users.
Do your part for our democracy today. If you spot any misleading or deceptive posts about voting or democracy reforms on social media report them to the Common Cause Social Media Monitoring team!
