Twenty-six states, including South Dakota & DC, allow citizen-led ballot initiatives and have a process for citizens to get measures on the ballot to be voted on to become law. This means that a group of citizens may place a measure on the ballot through gathering signatures, and, in some states, getting legislative approval once the set number of signatures is reached. Democracy rally held at new ‘Democracy Center’
Dakotans for Health, Drawn Together South Dakota, and South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws are trying to get different measures to be put on next year’s ballot in South Dakota. These organizations held a rally at the new Democracy Center in Sioux Falls to get the word out. The rally also serves as a way to introduce people to the new Democracy Center, a place where people can go to learn about several different petitions.
