Twenty-six states, including Mississippi & DC, allow citizen-led ballot initiatives and have a process for citizens to get measures on the ballot to be voted on to become law. This means that a group of citizens may place a measure on the ballot through gathering signatures, and, in some states, getting legislative approval once the set number of signatures is reached. TELL YOUR SENATOR THE FILIBUSTER MUST END!
Urge your Senators to ensure the filibuster does not stand in the way of passing urgent legislation that strengthens our democracy. We urgently need our government to pass legislation that rises to meet the challenges of this moment.
Measure 2 changes voting protocol for governor or state office so that a candidate must receive a majority vote to win; and establishes that a runoff election will take place between the two highest vote-getters in the event that no candidate receives a majority.
